Job Summary & Requirements:

Reporting to the Manager of the Access to Information & Regional Privacy Office, the ROI Clerk is responsible for managing and processing requests for personal health information (PHI) from Patients, Doctors, Clinics, Hospitals, Providers, Lawyers, WSIB, Insurance Companies, Police, Coroners, CAS, Research, Criminal Injuries Board, The College of Physicians and Surgeons, College of Nursing and other professional colleges within the turnaround time in accordance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).

The ROI Clerk will navigate requests, always ensuring compliance with the Act (i.e., SDM, POA requests), consent processes, and RVH policy and procedures.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Statistical tracking for end of year reporting
  • Draft status investigations
  • Offsite records access management

Education:

  • Community College Graduate of a Medical Office Administration Program or a registered Health Records Management Program
  • Graduate of a Canadian Health Information Management Program preferred

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience within a healthcare setting
  • Advanced computer and Electronic Medical Records literacy (ex., Microsoft Office Suites, MEDITECH)
  • Detailed understanding of laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to Healthcare Privacy and PHIPA
  • Ability to establish collaborative working relationships
  • Strong client focus
  • Able to exercise tact, courtesy, flexibility, patience, and sound judgment
  • Ability to use conflict resolution tools and techniques
  • Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality
  • Decision making and time management
  • Work independently with limited supervision, handle a heavy workload and meet short timelines

Other:

  • Familiarity with PHIPA
  • Experience in MS Office, Excel, MS Publisher and Meditech Expanse mandatory
