What does the Health Information Management team do?

Health Information Management (HIM) is a leader in the collection, storage, and distribution of patient information within British Columbia. Our dedicated team of professionals are some of the first points of contact at Health Organizations sites. As a consolidated Lower Mainland department of Providence Health Care, HIM has staff at about 40 geographically dispersed locations across Fraser Health, Providence Health Care, Provincial Health Services Authority and Vancouver Coastal Health.

Approximately 1,450 staff work in areas including Registration, Records Management, Transcription Services, Health Information Exchange, and Coding. Additional Corporate Services include Strategic Planning, Projects & Business Optimization, Culture & Communications. What You'll Do

The Release of Information (ROI) Clerk performs duties related to the release of clinical information in accordance with policies, procedures, legislation, and standards. Responsibilities include retrieval, severing, photocopying/scanning, electronic/paper distribution of healthcare documentation/reports, and responding to requests regarding confidentiality and release policies, including legal requests for personal information.

Education

Grade 12, successful completion of courses related to release of information, and two (2) years of recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Your Day to Day

  • Respond to inquiries regarding patient information, review medical records, and determine information to release.
  • Maintain and update release of information records using a computerized system.
  • Perform record processing functions, including verifying and correcting patient information, merging duplicate files, and filing.
  • Perform clerical duties such as answering phones, transferring calls, taking messages, and handling records.
  • Assist in updating procedures and participate in Quality Improvement activities.
