MAKING AN IMPACT

Reporting to the Manager of Relay For Life Youth (RFLY), Signature Programs, the Relay For Life Youth Specialist will work in the Ottawa area as part of the national RFLY team to actively solicit new business opportunities with English language high schools to meet aggressive revenue targets for the Relay For Life Youth Program. This role is responsible for revenue development, program support and development. This role demands significant travel to local Ottawa region high schools, sometimes up to 3-4 days a week from September to June with reduced travelling and more concentration on program development in the months of July and August.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING :

  • Recruits new high schools in the Ottawa region to host Relay For Life events; trains and mentors existing schools in the Ottawa region to meet revenue goals.
  • Presents the program to potential schools with a focus on student councils, leadership classes, cancer clubs, interested students, teachers, and / or administration.
  • Managing and growing an established revenue portfolio of $1.5M.
  • Supports and motivates student organizing committeesto meet participant and fundraising goals; attends committee meetings when necessary.
  • Leads and supports program administration and development as requested
  • Provides ongoing training and guidance to high school students and teachers organizing Relay For Life.
  • Attends student leadership conferences, speaking to groups of students and teachers at the Relay For Life trade show booth and workshops to secure new high schools to host an event.
  • Participates in planning, delivering content, and coordinating logistics for ‘Relay University’, our training conference for high school student committees.
  • Coaching student committees to implement strategies on topics such as participant recruitment, fundraising, marketing and promotions, and sponsorship for their event.
  • Liaises with internal departments regarding the program.
  • Adheres to all administration procedures as required.
  • Works in compliance with the provisions of The Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations and complies with CCS’ Health & Safety Policy.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Related post-secondary education; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • At least 1 – 2 years of fundraising and / or sales experience.
  • Experience working with youth strongly preferred.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills; including the ability to negotiate and influence others.
  • Strong project management, organizational and time management skills.
  • Confident and passionate public speaker that is comfortable presenting to both small and large groups.
  • Occasional travel across Canada occurs for internal meetings and conferences. All necessary travel expenses are covered by the Canadian Cancer Society.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
  • French language proficiency (written and oral) is an asset.
  • Knowledge and / or involvement in the Relay For Life Youth program is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Cancer Society policies and procedures is an asset.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
  • Bilingualism (French / English) is highly preferred, with French being an asset due to the organization’s nationwide operations and the need for effective communication across various regions.
