Job description

Position Overview

Reporting to the Senior Relationship Manager (SRM), the Relationship Manager (RM) supports existing and potential clients of the First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB). The RM collaborates across FMB business lines to foster a high-performing, engaged relationship-building team.

Accountabilities

Outreach / Engagement with prospective clients
  • Work with the SRM to identify prospective clients within a specific region and develop engagement strategies and work plans.
  • Conduct ongoing scans of the economic landscape to identify potential opportunities.
  • Implement marketing and outreach strategies to promote FMB services, the First Nations Fiscal Management Act (FMA), and certification processes.
  • Develop rapport with potential clients and support ongoing relationship growth.
  • Manage key relationships and outreach initiatives to support potential clients.
  • Deliver customized presentations and workshops to First Nations.
  • Support First Nations in developing their Financial Administration Law (FAL) or By-Law (FAB).
  • Liaise with clients and legal counsel to support FAL/FAB development.
  • Engage with IELR Legal and Paralegal teams to ensure compliance with FAL Standards.
  • Lead the client management process from initial engagement to compliance approval or certification.
  • Serve as the main contact for inquiries related to FAL Standards, law templates, and certification.

Prospective client segments include First Nations on and off FMA schedules, those wishing to remain under the Indian Act, and other specified groups.

Relationship Management
  • Provide reports on metrics aligning with IELR and FMB goals.
  • Ensure quality assurance for all legal and material documentation.
Supporting the Journey to FP & FMS Certification
  • Maintain primary contact with Chiefs & Councils, understanding their needs and objectives.
  • Support engagement and capacity development efforts.
  • Assist First Nations in evaluating and obtaining certifications.
Supporting clients’ journey to 10-Year Grant
  • Guide clients with FAL or FAB towards eligibility for the 10-Year Grant.
Supporting clients in the DMPPP
  • Support clients in the Default Management Prevention Pilot Program as they work towards enacting FAL and obtaining certifications.
Stakeholder Relations & Engagement
  • Develop and implement regional stakeholder relationship strategies.
  • Attend events to promote FMA and FMB.
  • Coordinate with other FMA institutions and establish partnerships with Indigenous organizations and agencies.

The Relationship Manager performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in business development, preferably with First Nations.
  • Experience working with First Nations required.
  • Indigenous cultural awareness essential.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with CRM software.
  • Strong project follow-through skills.
  • Excellent communication skills; command of English; French skills an asset.
  • Ability to conduct virtual and in-person presentations.
  • Relevant education and experience may be considered.

Work Conditions

  • Based in Alberta; remote work within Alberta considered.
  • Requires extensive regional and occasional national travel.
  • Some evening and weekend work may be necessary.
