Job description

This position is responsible for developing and executing strategies to prospect, acquire, retain, and grow membership for the affinity group initiatives. This work involves extensive research and preparation, meetings with current and potential donors, and building strong relationships between affinity group members and United Way. The role also includes representing United Way at community functions, recruiting and managing volunteers, and supporting Cabinet and/or Affinity Group Chairs/Co-Chairs. Collaboration with workplace campaigns interested in or implementing affinity initiatives is essential. The position reports to the Relationship Manager, Affinity Groups.

The Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of strategies to attract, retain, and grow affinity group members.
  • Participate in meetings with potential and prospective donors, including research on their backgrounds and related United Way initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Customer Care colleagues to support and integrate affinity group components into workplace campaigns and individual giving.
  • Participate in donor stewardship, including planning and preparing for stewardship events and compiling information on donor interests and designated funding.
  • Work with Product Development and Marketing teams to create marketing and communication materials to grow membership and maintain affinity group initiatives.
  • Attend United Way and affinity group events, including presenting to attendees and stakeholders.
  • Write and review support proposals, stewardship materials, and collateral materials.
  • Create and maintain accurate action notes in the CRM after donor meetings and interactions.
  • Use metrics to develop strategies, inform event planning, set goals, project outcomes, troubleshoot issues, and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Support the work of the Affinity Group Cabinet(s), including developing Terms of Reference and Role Profiles annually, in collaboration with the Portfolio Manager, Volunteer Engagement.
  • Assist in developing annual Cabinet strategies and plans, including recruitment, retention, and preparation for meetings with donors.

You understand the importance of relationships and how they impact organizational work. You are a skilled relationship builder with a proven track record in account management, fundraising sponsorship, and relationship sales. You enjoy problem-solving, analyzing information, and making data-driven decisions. You demonstrate accountability, operational excellence, and a customer service focus. You are outcomes-oriented, empathetic, collaborative, organized, and thrive in a digital environment, proficient with MS Office 365 and eager to learn new technologies.

Your background includes a post-secondary degree in business administration, social sciences, or a related field, plus 4-5 years of relevant experience. A combination of education and lived experience will also be considered. A valid driver’s license and vehicle are required for travel within Edmonton and surrounding areas.
