The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company is seeking a Reinsurance Specialist for the head office in Canada. This hybrid role blends in-office and remote work across multiple Canadian locations, including Winnipeg.

Under minimal supervision you will monitor catastrophe exposure, assist with reinsurance contracts, quarterly accumulations, and regulatory filings, while supporting monthly ceded recoveries and data reporting.

Qualifikationen

  • Undergraduate degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a P&C insurance related role.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Working Business Language: English. This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language utilized is English.

Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $80,000 - $105,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision, the Reinsurance Specialist is responsible for monitoring the company's catastrophe exposure and assisting in the administration of the reinsurance programs at the company. This role will provide timely and accurate information to support decision making.

Job Responsibilities
  • Creates and maintains an exposure database for catastrophe modeling
  • Assists in the implementation and use of third-party catastrophe models
  • Monitors catastrophe exposure accumulations on a quarterly basis
  • Assists in the administration and monitoring of the company reinsurance contracts
  • Assists in the monthly calculation of ceded recoveries - casualty, catastrophes and facultative.
  • Assists in the monthly monitoring of facultative placements by regional branches.
  • Assists in monthly reporting to reinsurers.
  • Assists in completing regulatory earthquake filings with government agencies
  • Assists with the annual reinsurance data submission
  • Assists in the allocation proposal for the reinsurance premium annually
  • Performs ad hoc data reporting requests as required
  • Remains up to date on all regulatory and legal actions/decisions affecting insurance company operations in general.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate university degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or other related field of study.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a P&C insurance related role
  • Extensive knowledge of the Property & Casualty insurance industry and insurance operations in general.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify relationships, problems and issues to solve complex problems
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Expert proficiency in MS Excel required; experience with MicroStrategy or SQL would be an asset
  • Actuarial exams, a CIP designation or a ARe designation would be a definite asset
