Qualifications
  • Grade 12 education (MB Standards)
  • Rehabilitation Aide course with in-class learning and practical component; or completion of a recognized Rehabilitation Aide online course, plus one year of experience in Therapy Services, or a recognized equivalent, or a Health Care Aide Certificate with a minimum of one year full-time experience as a Health Care Aide. Willingness to complete a Rehabilitation Aide online course within one year.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification as per Prairie Mountain Health Policy PPG-00002 CPR Training.
  • Province of Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for service within Prairie Mountain Health.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Internet applications, and other IT tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to new techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.

Position Summary

Rehabilitation Aides support rehabilitation programs in long-term care, acute care, and community settings. They implement rehabilitation programs under the assessment, development, and delegation of interventions by therapists or nurses, aiming to rehabilitate, maintain, and optimize clients' physical quality of life. They work under supervision throughout the client's course of care.

As members of a multidisciplinary team, Rehabilitation Aides provide services in facilities, clients' homes, or community environments. Services include basic personal care and rehabilitation, supporting clients to increase mobility, independence, and safety, and facilitating community reintegration where applicable.

Responsibilities

Overview:

  • Assist therapists with client assessments and reassessments.
  • Perform direct and indirect client care activities as assigned.
  • Conduct group exercises or mobility programs as directed.
  • Administer prescribed therapeutic interventions, such as modalities.
  • Operate within their scope of practice and communicate treatment responses and changes.
  • Support clients in activities promoting function, mobility, independence, and safety.
  • Provide training and assist with in-services upon request.
  • Assist clients with mobility, including transfers, walking, and transport, using proper techniques and equipment.
  • Manage referrals, schedule appointments, and coordinate client care activities.
  • Implement safety measures, including equipment safety and managing disoriented or aggressive clients.
  • Document interactions and treatments per protocols.
  • Order, manage, and maintain client equipment, ensuring safety and proper records.
  • Enter and track data in statistical systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
