They are seeking a seasoned Regulatory Approvals Specialist to join their Regulatory Approvals and Compliance team. In this role, you’ll lead environmental assessment and permitting work for major projects, ensuring high-quality, defensible submissions that meet regulatory and stakeholder expectations. You will collaborate with cross-functional technical teams, Indigenous governments, regulators, and clients to navigate complex environmental frameworks and deliver successful project approvals.

This opportunity is ideal for a professional who combines strategic insight, technical excellence, and relationship-building skills with a proven ability to manage complex projects through the approvals process.

Remote / WFH / Hybrid: 100% Remote anywhere in Canada (BC preferred)

Salary: $90k - $130k DOE, with benefits, RRSP matching, annual bonus on top of salary (The final salary will be determined based on qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations. Candidates who exceed these requirements or bring additional value to the team may receive a salary outside the specified range.)

Travel: Open to travel within Canada but not extensive.

Key Deliverables:
  • Deliver Results: Lead or co-lead multiple regulatory approvals and environmental assessment projects, meeting all milestones and earning positive feedback from clients and regulators.
  • Build Trust: Develop and sustain trusted relationships with clients, regulators, and Indigenous governments through clear, transparent communication.
  • Demonstrate Expertise: Produce high-quality, defensible regulatory submissions that stand up to public, technical, and regulatory scrutiny.
  • Drive Efficiency: Implement project tracking tools and regulatory checklists that improve internal workflows and reduce review cycles.
  • Add Business Value: Identify and support new business opportunities through exceptional delivery and trusted client relationships.
  • Technical Excellence: You design and execute regulatory strategies tailored to each client’s needs, integrating environmental, technical, and stakeholder factors into cohesive approval pathways.
  • Client & Regulator Confidence: You represent the firm with professionalism and credibility, ensuring regulators and clients trust the quality, accuracy, and defensibility of your work.
  • Strategic Impact: You anticipate regulatory changes, advise clients on proactive compliance strategies, and contribute to thought leadership within the regulatory practice.
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: You share expertise generously—mentoring intermediate staff, reviewing deliverables, and helping foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support regulatory approvals and environmental assessment submissions for large, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive regulatory strategies ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and territorial requirements.
  • Liaise with Indigenous governments, regulators, stakeholders, and communities, fostering transparent and respectful engagement.
  • Review and provide quality assurance on technical deliverables, ensuring they meet project and regulatory expectations.
  • Support business development efforts, contributing to proposals and identifying opportunities to grow client relationships.
  • Stay informed of policy and regulatory trends to help shape internal standards, tools, and best practices for project delivery.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in environmental assessment, permitting, regulatory approvals, and/or risk management — ideally within consulting or industry.
  • Proven experience managing large, complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and jurisdictions.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian environmental legislation and permitting systems (e.g., IAAC, BCEAO, MECP, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and navigate complex regulatory frameworks, providing strategic guidance to clients.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a commitment to producing accurate, defensible deliverables.
  • Experience mentoring staff and contributing to a collaborative, growth-oriented culture.

Your expertise will directly influence environmental outcomes and project success across Canada. You’ll play a key role in helping clients achieve sustainable, compliant, and timely project approvals — while contributing to a practice that’s shaping the future of environmental and regulatory consulting.
