Job summary

Horizon School Division is seeking a Regular Educational Assistant for Hays School, Alberta. The approx.

15-hour/week position includes morning and early afternoon sessions and supports learning for individual or small groups under the guidance of the Learning Support Teacher and Principal. The successful candidate will assist with learning activities, facilitate our snack program, and build positive connections within the school and community.

Qualifications

• Experience providing learning support for individuals and/or groups of students.
• Ability to work under the direction of the Learning Support Teacher and Principal.
• Knowledge of the Low German Mennonite culture is a strong asset.

Hays is a small hamlet 27 km east of Vauxhall on Highway 524. Our staff of 4 provide educational service to approximately 15 students ranging from kindergarten to Grade 9.

Regular Educational Assistant – approx. 15 hours/week

Assignment includes - Monday & Wednesday 8:00 a.m.- 11:25 a.m. and Tuesday & Thursday 8:00 a.m.- 12:54 p.m.

Hays school is looking for an Educational Assistant that is passionate about helping students achieve success.

The successful applicant will be providing learning support for individuals and/or groups of students. They will work under the direction of the Learning Support Teacher and Principal. The ability to make positive connections with students, staff and community is a must. The position also includes facilitating our snack program. Knowledge of the Low German Mennonite culture is a strong asset.

An Educational Assistant in Horizon School Division

• Encourages studentsto develop and maintainpositiveinteraction.
• Maintains confidentialityand a patient, supportive and enthusiasticcommitmentto students.
• As required, provides personal care including toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing, grooming, etc. ensuringthat studentdignity is maintained. Attends to physical needs including lifting, positioning, and range of motion programs as identified by appropriate personnel.
• Ensures the safety of students in the school and community, which includes maintaining close supervision of students, ensuring studentequipment is sanitized and put away, retrieving students who attemptto leave their learningenvironment, calming and/or restraining students engaged in challenging behaviours; supervising and assisting studentswho utilize a variety of life skill tools (i.e., scissors, cooking utensils, etc.).
• Maintains collegial relationships with the students' learning team.
