Job description

MUST LOVE CATS! Village Cat Clinic is looking for a feline fancier to join our technical team as a Registered Veterinary Technician.

In addition to the responsibilities outlined below, the Veterinary Technician is an invaluable member of the hospital team who works directly with the Veterinarian and supporting medical staff to ensure productive and quality veterinary care at all times.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Assists the veterinarian during examination of animals, providing Cat Friendly restraint as needed in order to work safely and effectively.
  2. Prepares and administers medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments, as prescribed by the veterinarian.
  3. Performs routine dental cleanings on animals under the direction of the veterinarian.
  4. Administers anesthesia to animals under the direction of the veterinarian and monitors animals’ responses to anesthetics so that dosages can be adjusted.
  5. Obtains radiographs of animals with knowledge of proper positioning, techniques, and safety procedures.
  6. Cares for and monitors the condition of animals recovering from surgery.
  7. Performs laboratory tests on blood, urine, and feces, such as urinalyses and blood counts, to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems.
  8. Administers emergency first aid, such as performing emergency resuscitation or other life-saving procedures.
  9. Collects, prepares, and labels samples for laboratory testing, culture, or microscopic examination.
  10. Cleans and sterilizes instruments, equipment, and materials.
  11. Provides the veterinarian with the correct equipment and instruments, as needed.
  12. Fills prescriptions, measuring medications and labeling containers.
  13. Prepares animals for surgery, performing tasks such as shaving surgical areas, placing IV catheters, intubation, and appropriate monitoring to meet current CVO guidelines on quality care.
  14. Maintains clean examination rooms and treatment areas.
  15. Works collaboratively with veterinarians to ensure proper animal care and efficient workflow.
  16. Maintains proper records, including surgical/radiology logs and controlled substance logs as per current CVO guidelines.
  17. Performs minor grooming procedures, nail trims, and lion cuts on cats.
Skills and Basic Qualifications
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician (preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle and control aggressive animals using Cat Friendly/Fear Free Techniques.
  • Ability to handle the physical and emotional aspects of veterinary work, including euthanasia.
  • Professional and courteous manner with staff and clients.
  • Commitment to ongoing education and growth.
  • Active listening, critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record (preferred).
