Job description

We, at the Prescott Animal Hospital, like to challenge the status quo by striving for excellence in our delivery of "Care and Comfort for Pets and People." We offer a fun, fast-paced, and dynamic work environment. All technicians are cross-trained in customer service and technical duties. We expect all our patients to be provided with high-quality care and compassion.

We are seeking a part/full-time VT or RVT; new grads are welcome. Valued attributes include demonstrating leadership, initiative, and accountability. Candidates must be willing to work evenings, Saturdays, and on-call schedules. The successful individual must bring a positive atmosphere to the workplace, work as a team player to help bring out the best in other team members, and commit to continued education. Our practice offers CE, uniform allowance, health benefits, and covers OAVT dues. Salary is based on experience.

Position type and expected hours of work :

  • 8-hour shifts Monday – Friday, including evenings (Mondays & Wednesday rotation 12pm - 8pm)
  • Saturday shifts required (once monthly)
  • On call as scheduled by the manager (No more than 3 weekends per year)

Education and Experience :

  • Veterinary Technician Registration in Ontario is required

Competency

Technical Skills :

  • Obtain and record patient histories and data into Avimark software
  • Collect specimens and perform routine laboratory procedures and tests in hematology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology
  • Dispense and administer medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians
  • Administer fluids and blood products as prescribed
  • Administer and monitor anesthesia under veterinarian supervision
  • Provide specialized nursing care for injured or ill patients
  • Observe animal appearance and activity for signs of health issues
  • Prepare patients, instruments, and equipment for surgery
  • Maintain monitoring and support equipment in good working condition
  • Assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures with high-tech equipment
  • Take and process radiographs
  • Educate clients on preventative healthcare and marketing veterinary services
  • Clean, maintain, and sterilize instruments and equipment
  • Handle and treat patients with skill, compassion, and care
  • Knowledge of computers and relevant software, including MS Office and Allydvm

  • Knowledge of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment care
  • Understanding of treatment procedures and client service principles
