Job summary

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) for the Barrie area. Join a compassionate team dedicated to shelter medicine and high-quality animal care in a fast-paced, structured environment.

This full-time role offers a balanced schedule with no on-call requirements, competitive hourly pay, and opportunities for professional development. You will support veterinary care, client communication, and animal welfare across the Barrie facility.

Qualifications

  • Validation of being a Registered Veterinary Technician.
  • 2-3 years of surgical experience preferred.
  • 1-4 years as a registered veterinary technician, preferably in a high-volume animal clinic.
  • Administrative experience is an asset.
  • Available to work weekdays.
  • Valid driver’s license with clear abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Welcoming clients and their pets.
  • Providing exceptional care for animals during their stay.
  • Monitor health and behavioral needs of each animal.
  • Coach and train shelter staff on health and wellness protocols.
  • Liaise with the Veterinarian Client Patient Relationship (VCPR).
  • Assist the Animal Centre Manager with care-related decisions.
  • General housekeeping duties.
  • Participate in Mobile SN & Wellness Clinics as needed.

RegisteredVeterinary Technician (RVT):What if you could create a brighter future for animals in need and the people who love them? We are seeking an RVT with a passion for shelter medicine to assist in shelter animal care.

A Typical Day Centre Role
  • Welcoming clients and their pets
  • Providing exceptional care for our animals during their stay
  • Monitor the physical health and behavioural needs of each animal in our care
  • Coaching and training shelter staff on Shelter Health and Wellness concepts and protocols
  • Liaises with the VCPR (Veterinary Client Patient Relationship) to provide open communication and a medical relationship with the Centre.
  • Assist the Animal Centre Manager with animal care related decision making
  • General house-keeping duties
  • Participation in Mobile SN & Wellness Clinics as needed
Set up For Success
  • Validation of being a Registered Veterinary Technician
  • 2-3 years of surgical experience preferred
  • 1-4 years of experience as a registered veterinary technician, preferably within a high-volume animal clinic

  • Valid G drivers’ licence with the ability to provide a clear driver’s abstract
