Job summary

Southlake Health is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to support the Pulmonary Function Laboratory and other areas needing respiratory therapy in a fast-paced acute medical setting.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team focused on quality patient care and patient flow, with coverage across birthing, critical care, ED, wards, and outpatient clinics. Expect a collaborative environment with ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• RRT registered with the College of Respiratory Therapists in the General Class Practice
• Participation in the CRTO Quality Assurance Program
• BCLS and NRP required, ACLS preferred
• Experience with pulmonary function testing, arterial blood gases, and oximetry
• Knowledge of asthma and COPD education beneficial

Responsibilities

• Provide Respiratory Therapy coverage across units including birthing, ICU, ED, wards, and pulmonary function lab
• Respond to codes as part of CCOT team
• Coach and facilitate spirometry and pulmonary function testing
• Educate patients to support action plans and medication adherence
• Perform arterial blood gases and ensure high-quality testing
• Set up and maintain respiratory equipment and calibrations

About the role

We are seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to provide coverage to the Pulmonary Function Laboratory and other patient areas requiring Respiratory Therapy support. The successful candidate will be motivated, self-directed and a key member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team with defined roles focused on quality patient care and patient flow. The successful candidate will be responsible to provide excellent care to a diverse acute medical patient population in a fast-paced setting.

What you’ll be doing

• Providing Respiratory Therapy coverage in the birthing unit, critical care units, emergency department, wards and the pulmonary function lab and outpatient clinics.


• Member of the CCOT team, responsible for responding to various codes within the organization.


• Coaching and facilitating spirometry, pulmonary function testing and oximetry.


• Patient education to support respiratory action plans, symptom management, and proper medication adherence.


• Performing arterial blood gases.


• Responsible for maintaining high quality testing and results.


• Responsible for setup, maintenance, quality control testing and monitoring calibration of respiratory equipment.

What you bring

• RRT registered with the College of Respiratory Therapists in the General Class Practice according to the standards and guidelines set out by the College


• Participation in the CRTO Quality Assurance Program


• BCLS and NRP required, ACLS preferred


• Previous experience in pulmonary function testing, including methacholine challenges; arterial blood gases and exercise oximetry for home oxygen will be considered an asset


• Experience with asthma and COPD patient education preferred


• Certified Respiratory Educator, or willing to obtain


• Knowledge of adult education principles an asset


• Experience working with paediatrics and neonates preferred


• Participates in the CRTO’s Quality Assurance Program
