Job summary

EHN Canada, a national network of mental health, trauma, and addiction treatment facilities, is seeking a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) to join our interdisciplinary team. The RPN will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care under Physician guidance, delivering evidence-informed and recovery-oriented treatment.

The role focuses on direct patient interaction, therapeutic relationships, and safe, compassionate care within a secure environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing or related field from an accredited institution
  • Completion of a recognized psychiatric nursing program
  • Valid RPN license in the province or territory of practice
  • Registration with the relevant nursing regulatory body
  • Clinical experience in psychiatric nursing or mental health settings preferred
  • Familiarity with addiction treatment and recovery practices
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team
  • Understanding of mental health disorders and treatment modalities
  • Awareness of trauma-informed care and culturally sensitive practices
  • Compassion and empathy toward patients and their families
  • Resilience and ability to manage stress in challenging situations
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and education

Position Overview:

As a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive patient care under the guidance of a Physician and the Nurse Supervisor. The RPN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care, ensuring it is evidence-informed, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, person-centered, and recovery-oriented.

The RPN collaborates closely with healthcare professionals in a safe and secure environment, ensuring quality care for patients undergoing treatment for mental health and addiction challenges. Much of the RPN’s role involves direct interaction with patients, fostering therapeutic relationships and support.

Registered Psychiatric Nurses may encounter exposure to blood, bodily fluids, infectious diseases, chemicals, and other safety hazards. Additionally, they may face potentially violent or aggressive situations when working with patients.
