Unit 10-2 is an adult acute assessment and treatment unit under the Recovery Alberta Adult Acute portfolio.Unit 10-2 provides patient and family-centered care, with all team members working within the CoACT collaborative care model. Reporting to the unit manager, the Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care for adults presenting with acute mental health and addictions concerns. The Registered Nurse/ Registered Psychiatric Nurse will provide safe, effective, and stage-matched nursing care according to clinical policies, procedures, and evidence-based nursing care standards. The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse works within a concurrent capable, recovery-oriented framework, within the context of a multidisciplinary team.

Description:

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active or Eligible registration with CRNA College of Registered Nurses of Alberta. 2 years of recent experience in an Adult Acute Mental Health nursing role. Working knowledge of relevant legislation is required, including the Alberta Mental Health Act and the Health Information Act. Working knowledge and understanding of psychotropic medications, psychopathology, Restraint as a Last Resort, and the principles of trauma-informed care. The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse must have the ability to effectively collaborate with patients, families, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals in the provision of care. Must demonstrate excellent assessment, organizational and patient care skills, along with the flexibility, tolerance, and ability to deal with challenging situations. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills are also required, as well as the ability to independently identify learning needs and seek guidance in professional practice where knowledge deficits occur.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in working with clients with concurrent disorders and are appropriately able to assess and manage behavioural emergencies and withdrawal from multiple substances.Experience working within a CoACT model of care is preferred, as well as completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
