Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, or designate, the outreach nurse provides interventions in a variety of community settings. This position is responsible for providing assessments, direct interventions, and treatment processes aimed at improving client functioning. Risk assessment and crisis intervention are direct responsibilities on a daily basis. Such processes are designed for the needs of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and/or concurrent disorders who require long‑term case management aimed at community‑based stabilization. Working with clients who have a Community Treatment Order and aligning the treatment plan to meet that population’s legislated needs. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well‑being. You will provide safe, quality, patient‑ and family‑centered care, while reflecting shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Psychiatric Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited psychiatric nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP) certification.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Current valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Basic Life Saving Level C.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check.
  • Training in Suicide and Crisis Intervention; Applied Suicide Intervention Skills; Training (ASIST) Certificate or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing, Master of Nursing.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Mental Health.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Community Mental Health experience.
  • A working knowledge of psychiatric pharmacology.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Developed and proven skills.
  • Working knowledge of Mental Health Resources.
