Under the direction of the Care Manager, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) works within a community residential setting providing care for adolescents with complex mental health presentations. Working in partnership with the residential agency, Child and Family Services, and an allied health team, the RPN provides the mental health support and leadership for youth who require intensive community-based mental health support. The RPN provides clinical assessments, care-plan interventions, and psycho-educational learning opportunities for clients and staff. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications :
3-5 years of acute care mental health experience required. 2-3 years of adolescent mental health experience required. Non-violent crisis intervention (or equivalent) required. Knowledge and experience using a Collaborative Problem-Solving approach. Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written skills is essential. Demonstrated knowledge of complex mental health diagnosis and care-planning. Brain Story Certification preferred, Demonstrated skills in de-escalation with youth. Demonstrated skills in psycho-educational group facilitation. Ability to work independently as the nurse within a multi-disciplinary team.
