The Opportunity

The Registered Practical Nurse provides professional nursing care to residents in accordance with required medical care and professional nursing practice. They also provide direction to Personal Support Workers as defined by the College of Nurses Standard of Practice Working with Unregulated Health Care Workers.

What Is In It For You
  • Implement AgeCare policies and procedures on the unit in collaboration with the Registered Nurse. Contribute to the revision of procedures within the residence and the unit.
  • Liaise with physicians and other members of the healthcare team, including external partners. Notify the physician immediately of any significant changes in resident status in the absence of the Registered Nurse.
  • Work with the healthcare team to meet residents’ care needs.
  • Provide direction to Personal Support Workers on the care team.
  • Participate in shift reports to ensure all team members are informed of changes in resident status.
What You Will Need
  • Strong knowledge of geriatric, rehabilitation, or long-term care nursing, including activation, nursing, and personnel administration.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Regulations, Health Disciplines Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, Food and Drugs Act (Canada), Controlled Substances Act (Canada), Health Promotion and Protection Act, Personal Health Protection Act, and Coroners Act.
  • Familiarity with College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice and other pertinent federal, provincial, and municipal statutes affecting nursing home operations.
  • A current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario and good standing as a member.
