Job summary

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto is seeking an experienced Registered Practical Nurse with surgical experience to conduct pre-operative and post-operative assessments and discharge planning.

The RPN will support physical and psychological patient preparation for various surgeries, assist with mobilization and transfers, provide post-operative teaching, and work closely with the RN and care team to deliver person-centred care.

Qualifications

• Must hold current Ontario College of Nurses registration.
• Diploma in RPN required.
• BCLS certification required.
• 1–2 years recent surgical experience.
• Successful completion of Physical Assessment course.
• Venipuncture/IV certification and phlebotomy skills.
• Medication Administration course completed.
• Strong critical thinking and prioritization under stress.
• Excellent computer skills.
• Knowledge of effects of general and regional anaesthetics.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Good time management and organization.

Summary of Duties

• We are seeking an experienced RPN with current surgical experience, including pre-operative and post-operative assessment, and dischargeexperience. The individual must have strong clinical assessment skills and organizational abilities to provide a high level of patient care in theimmediate pre-operative and post-operative phase.
• The primary responsibility of the RPN includes physical and psychological assessment, instruction and preparation of patients undergoing avariety of surgeries.
• The RPN should have an ability to adapt to a fast-changing and be able to provide physical assistance with patient mobilization, transfers and ambulation.
