Job summary

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto is seeking an experienced Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with current surgical experience to support pre-operative and post-operative care. The role focuses on physical and psychological assessment, patient instruction and preparation for a variety of surgeries.

You will adapt to a fast-changing, high-demand environment, assist with patient mobilization, transfers and ambulation, and provide post-operative health teaching on recovery and pain

Qualifications

• Current Ontario College of Nurses Registration (RPN).
• Diploma in RPN, valid in Ontario.
• BCLS certification required at time of hire.
• Minimum 1–2 years of recent surgical experience.
• Completion of Physical Assessment course.
• Venipuncture IV certification and phlebotomy skills.
• Medication Administration course completed.
• Excellent critical thinking and problem solving in stress.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong time management and organizational abilities.
• Promote Client Centered Care in a clinic setting.

Responsibilities

• Physical and psychological assessment of pre- and post-operative patients.
• Prepare patients undergoing a variety of surgeries and provide instruction.
• Assist with patient mobilization, transfers and ambulation.
• Provide post-operative health teaching on recovery and pain management.
