Job summary

North York General Hospital is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to join the Telemetry Unit. You will provide patient- and family-centered care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, focusing on assessment, education, prevention, and restoration of health.

Qualifications

• Registered Practical Nursing diploma from a recognized Community College.
• Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification.
• Prefer Coronary Care I/II training or progress toward those courses.
• Telemetry experience and acute medical/surgical background desired.

Responsibilities

• Function to the full scope of nursing practice per the CNO.
• Conduct thorough assessments and care planning for cardiology patients.
• Demonstrate strong organizational, problem-solving and teaching skills.
• Foster interpersonal relationships with patients, families and the care team.
• Respond effectively in emergency situations and ensure safety.
• Utilize computers, MS Word and patient information systems for documentation.

Position Summary

Registered Practice Nurse, Telemetry Unit

Your goal in this position is to provide excellent patient and family driven care in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner. You will do this by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of care providers, with an emphasis on the assessment, education, prevention, maintenance, and restoration of patient health. You’re a great relationship builder and foster close contacts with peers across the entire organization. You have great interpersonal skills and effortlessly connect with physicians, staff, patients, and families. This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients and families

On a practical level, you will

• Demonstrate the ability to function to the full scope of nursing practice per the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
• Have excellent assessment skills with clinical knowledge of the care of the cardiology patient
• Have effective organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, time-management and teaching skills
• Have excellent interpersonal skills with ability to foster good public relations and working relationships in a family centered care environment
• Demonstrate ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations
• Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with patients/clients, families and other members of the health care team
• Demonstrate knowledge of transfers and lifts
• Be committed to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement
• Have proficient skill level with computers, MS Word, Internet searches, data entry and patient information systems

Qualifications

• Registered Practical Nursing diploma from a recognized Community College
• Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
• Recent Medication Certificate, Patient Health assessment course and IV initiation/therapy course, or equivalent experience required
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification
• Completion of Coronary Care I preferred
• Must be enrolled in Coronary Care I within 3 months of Hire and successfully completed within 6 months of hire
• Coronary Care Level II must be successfully completed within 1 year of hire
• Telemetry experience preferred
• Minimum of 1-year acute medical/surgical experience required
• Bilingualism in French/English an asset
