Job summary

North York General Hospital is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse for the Acute Care Elderly Unit on a part-time permanent basis. You will deliver patient- and family-centered care, collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, and support teaching and learning as part of our academic mandate.

The role emphasizes clinical excellence, critical thinking, and leadership in high-quality care, with shifts including Day, Evening, Nights and weekends, across 8- and 12-hour blocks.

Qualifications

  • Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) diploma from a recognized community college.
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Current Medication Certificate.
  • Current certificate in Gerontology or equivalent of one year working with geriatric patients in inpatient/outpatient settings.
  • Bilingualism in French/English an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent patient- and family-centered care in a fast-paced acute care setting.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to assess, educate, prevent and restore health.
  • Demonstrate leadership and critical thinking in patient care and safety.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and health care staff.

Position Summary
Registered Practical Nurse, Acute Care Unit

Your goal in this position is to provide excellent patient and family driven care, in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner. You will do this by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of care providers, with an emphasis on the assessment, education, prevention, maintenance, and restoration of patient health. You're a great relationship builder, and foster close contacts with peers across the entire organization. You have great interpersonal skills, and effortlessly connect with physicians, staff, patients, and families. You also have excellent assessment skills with clinical knowledge of care. This position supports the hospital's academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families. #INDO

  • Demonstrate your ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations
