Responsibilities of a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN):
  • Maintain current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Have existing Heart Save Level of CPR.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively, plan properly, and allocate appropriate time and effort; remain calm and manage stress appropriately.
  • Deliver safe administration of medication and treatments with accuracy, quality, and respect for residents’ quality of life.
  • Follow care plans as per College of Nurses standards and report any changes in residents’ well-being to the Charge Nurse or leadership team.
  • Understand relevant policies, procedures, legislation, and regulations applicable to Long-Term Care, including the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, and OSHA.
  • Support and embrace our resident-centred social culture and deliver high-quality personal care.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to understand and advocate for residents’ needs, support move-ins, transfers, and changes in medical needs.
  • Collaborate with physicians during weekly rounds and update care plans accordingly.
  • Proficient communication and computer skills to update care plans in the system.
  • Understand the physical, mental, and emotional demands of the RPN role.

Preferred Assets for Our RPN:
  • MDS credentials.
  • Experience with residents living with Dementia.
  • Knowledge of palliative assessment scales.
  • Comfort supporting residents and families during end-of-life care.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, legislation, regulations, and best practices in the sector, including RAI processes and CIHI.
