Job summary

Schlegel Villages in Whitby, ON invites an Unscheduled Part Time Registered Practical Nurse to join our village team. The role emphasizes safe medication administration, adherence to care plans, and resident-centered care within a multidisciplinary setting.

Qualifications

  • Must maintain current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Must have Heart Save CPR certification.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, plan effectively, and manage time and stress.
  • Deliver safe administration of medications and treatments with focus on quality of life.
  • Follow care plans per professional standards and report changes to leadership.
  • Understand laws and regulations in Long-Term Care, OSHA, and related bodies.
  • Support resident-centered care and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

The Village of Taunton Mills has an exciting opportunity for an Unscheduled Part Time Registered Practical Nurse to join their team in Retirement.

The hiring rate for this role is $ 27.49 per collective agreement/employee association agreement.

As a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) joining our Village, you will:
  • Maintain current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Have existing Heart Save Level of CPR.
  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritize tasks effectively, properly plan for, and allocate the right amount of time and effort to complete tasks. Remains calm and manages stress appropriately.
  • Deliver safe administration of medication and treatments with a focus on accuracy, quality and meeting our residents’ quality of life requests.
  • Follow plans of care (or service plans) in accordance with the standards of the College of Nurses and able to identify and report any changes in the resident’s well-being to the Charge Nurse or Village leadership team.
  • Have an understanding of relevant policies, procedures, legislation, and regulations applicable to the Long-Term Care sector, including the Fixing Long-Term. Care Act, 2021, Ontario Retirement Communities Association, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OSHA) of Ontario.
  • Support and embrace our resident-centred social culture and be proud to deliver the highest quality of personal care to our residents.
  • Work as a key member of our Village and Neighbourhood multidisciplinary team to understand residents’ individual needs, and advocate for residents to actively participate in decisions about their care, support new resident move-ins, facilitate transfers to hospital, or any changes in resident medical needs.
  • Collaborate with the Neighbourhood Physician during weekly rounds and update care plans and directions accordingly.
  • Have proficient communication and computer skills in order to update care plans in the current system.
  • Understand the physical, mental, and emotional demands of the RPN role.

It would be an asset if our new Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) has:
  • MDS credentials.
  • Experience working with people living with Dementia.
  • Knowledge of the palliative assessments scale.
  • Comfortable supporting residents and their families during end-of-life care.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, legislation, regulations and best practices applicable to the retirement and long-term care sector (e.g. RAI processes and CIHI, supplies, equipment ordering, etc.)
