The Registered Practical Nurse provides direction to the Personal Support Workers as defined by the College of Nurses Standard of Practice Working with Unregulated Health Care Workers. The RPN assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors, and other staff members. All duties are performed in the best interest of the residents and their families, and in accordance with AgeCare’s vision, mission, and values statements.
Within the scope of this position, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) takes on a key role to continually provide an environment promoting a culture of client safety and freedom from harm and injury.
The Behavioural Support Coordinator supports the Social Worker, Assistant Director of Care, Director of Care, Nurse Managers, residents, and their family members. The Behavioral Support Coordinator is responsible for promoting and contributing to the development of a person-centred philosophy of care for residents exhibiting Behavioural challenges. The Behavioural Support Coordinator utilizes effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with residents, family members, other staff members and care providers to ensure that a holistic plan of care is in place for the resident.
Experience: Demonstrates knowledge in dementia care, delirium, mental health issues and the impact that it has on the resident’s quality of life, family members and care partners.
Education: Possesses and maintains RPN certification, qualifications and maintains good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Assumes responsibility for personal development through participation in staff development programs, seminars, and workshops.
Job requires a significant amount of sitting, standing, reaching, walking, and lifting. According to the National Occupational Classification (NOC) Definitions, this job is considered “Medium”.
Physical risks include muscle strain from lifting, dealing with aggressive residents, and repetitive strain injuries.
