AgeCare in Ontario is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to provide professional nursing care to residents and guide unregulated health care workers according to professional standards. You will collaborate with the RN, liaise with physicians, and participate in rounds to ensure residents' needs are met.

The position requires a Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario and a current good standing.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of geriatric, rehabilitation or long-term care nursing and related administration.
• Familiarity with Ontario nursing standards and relevant acts and regulations.
• Current Certificate of Competence and member in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with the Registered Nurse to implement AgeCare policies on the unit.
• Provides input to revise procedures within the residence and unit.
• Liaises with physicians and health care team, including external partners.
• Notifies physician of significant changes when RN is unavailable.
• Works with team to ensure residents' care needs are met.
• Directs Personal Support Workers on the care team.

The Opportunity The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) provides professional nursing care to residents in accordance with required medical care and professional nursing practice. The Registered Practical Nurse provides direction to the Personal Support Workers as defined by the College of Nurses Standard of Practice Working with Unregulated Health Care Workers.

What You Will Do

• In collaboration with the Registered Nurse, implements AgeCare policies and procedures on the unit.
• Provides input into the revision of procedures within the residence and the unit.
• Liaises with physicians and other members of the health care team including external health care partners.
• In the absence of the Registered Nurse, immediately notifies the physician of any significant changes in resident status.
• Works with other members of the health care team to ensure residents’ care needs are met.
• Provides direction to Personal Support Workers on the care team.
• Participates in shift report with members of the health care team, ensuring that all team members are informed of changes in resident status.

What You Bring

• A sound knowledge and background in geriatric, rehabilitation or long-term care nursing including activation, nursing, and personnel administration. Knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Regulations, the appropriate sections of the Health Disciplines Act, Occupation Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, Food and Drugs Act (Canada), Controlled Substances Act (Canada) Health Promotion and Protection Act. Personal Health Protection Act, Coroners Act, College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice and other pertinent Federal, Provincial and Municipal Statues which influence the operation of the Nursing Home and more specifically the nursing department. A current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario and a member in good standing.

Salary Range: $34.02 - $35.78 per hour Salary placement based on qualifications and experience.
