The Clinical Care Program is currently seeking two (2) part-time, permanentRegistered Practical Nurses to work in the Psychosis Recovery and Treatment Unit 6 (PRT 6). As a member of an inpatient inter-professional team, you will provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care to clients in different stages of their recovery journey. You will be expected to respond to client care needs using a safe, respectful and dignified approach. As well, you will be expected to ensure the safety and security of the client care environment. You will practice in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario professional standards, the CAMH Practice Model of Care, CAMH policies and procedures, and according to other relevant legislation and regulations. Using a primary nursing model, you will collaborate with the care team to perform ongoing clinical assessments, utilize evidence-based interventions, as well as develop, implement and evaluate the inter-professional plan of client care to address multiple health care priorities. You will be expected to utilize critical thinking, a problem solving process and customer service in your approach to care and service delivery. As a member of an inter-professional team, the RPN is responsible for working with patients from diverse backgrounds, contributing to program development, and providing educational support and supervision to students. You will have sound knowledge of severe and persistent mental illness and schizophrenia, addictions, crisis intervention, recovery model, and therapeutic groups. As an RPN, your skills include the ability to make behavioural observations, perform assessments, including mental status and physical exams, monitor and evaluate patient’s response to pharmaceutical and other care interventions, document clearly and communicate consistently and timely with other team members. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, promotes learning and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements.This position involves 12 hour shift rotation and weekend work at the Queen Street Site.

The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) at the HealthCare Provider Level. The candidate must have medication administration certification or completion of an RPN education preparation program that includes medication administration. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to develop the Nurse-Client therapeutic relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a College program, and possess a recent and strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing and addiction issues. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the prevention and management of disturbed behaviour. The successful candidate will be a self-directed team player who is highly organized with excellent critical thinking skills. Experience working with individuals from diverse ethno cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds is required. Proficient computer literacy is also required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
