Registered Practical Nurse (PRN), Health Centre

Location: Oakville, Ontario (on-site)
Type: Full-time
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM or 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Salary Range: $25 -$35/hour

Appleby College is seeking a compassionate Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to provide essential care and administrative support at our Health Centre. If you are committed to supporting the health and well-being of our students and campers, we would like to hear from you.

HOW YOU WILL THRIVE:

As the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), you will oversee the daily operations of the Health Centre, ensuring smooth functioning and serving as the first point of contact to warmly welcome and guide students, campers, and visitors. Additionally, the RPN will provide essential nursing care by conducting both physical and emotional health screenings.

HOW YOU WILL SUCCEED:

  • Perform administrative duties such as registrations, creating medical information lists for off-campus events, managing claim insurance, greeting students, and signing in and out students at the Health Centre.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records, ensuring compliance with privacy laws and nursing standards.
  • Provide health education, administer immunizations, and support public health initiatives.
  • Conduct health screenings and assessments and provide direct care to students and campers for various health concerns, including injuries, illnesses, mental health issues, and chronic conditions.
  • Manage emergencies and urgent situations within the scope of nursing practice, collaborating with healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Develop and manage individualized care plans for students with medical conditions or wellbeing challenges, collaborating with faculty and guidance counselors.
  • Provide support, assessment, education, and planning services to students experiencing mild to complex mental health and substance abuse challenges.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Health Services and other staff to implement clear processes and systems within the Health Centre.
  • Assist students with medical appointments, including scheduling and arranging transportation.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • RPN certification.
  • CPR certification with annual recertification for AED.
  • Previous administration and nursing experience in a similar setting, with a strong understanding of Ontario Standards of Nursing Practice.
  • Experience in emotional wellbeing support.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control measures, public health guidelines, and privacy laws (e.g., PHIPPA).
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including OneNote and Excel, and adaptability to learn new systems.
  • Administrative experience with medical record systems (e.g., Magnus Health) and insurance coordination is an asset.
  • Tech-savvy with high attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and work independently or collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
