As a member of an inter-professional team and working under the full scope of practice, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) at Providence Care is responsible for delivering safe, effective, patient-centered care to assigned patients in a non-acute setting, in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and the Standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario. The RPN will assist patients and their caregivers in managing clinical conditions and transitions, and enhance quality of life by addressing the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of each individual.
Skills and Qualifications Required
- Active, unrestricted license to practice with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current CPR certification
- College certificate required; diploma preferred
- Medication Certificate issued after 1985, meeting Ontario College of Nurses requirements, if graduated before 1985
Position Responsibilities
- Completing a nursing history based on information from the patient, family, and other sources
- Developing and recording a goal-oriented nursing care plan focused on immediate needs, in collaboration with the patient
- Performing interventions within the nurse's scope of practice and available resources
- Following the prescribed medical regime accurately
- Re-assessing the care plan based on evaluation and goal achievement
- Recognizing unusual patient responses and consulting with colleagues as needed
- Revising the nursing care plan based on professional judgment and evaluation
