The role is guided by a code of ethics and a commitment to clinical competence, characterized by up-to-date, resource-efficient clinical practice, and effective communication in partnership with patients and families. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, RPNs scrub for major and minor surgical procedures and assist with patient care according to the Standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario and the standards of nursing care of this hospital.

  • Experience in setting up and caring for ambulatory ophthalmology patients, including pre-intra-post-operative care.
  • Experience with flexible scopes (bronchoscope, gastroscope, colonoscopies, duodenoscopes) and rigid/flexible cystoscopies.
  • Ability to set up and care for diverse minor surgery procedures, anticipating patient needs.
  • Motivation to pursue educational goals and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to implement care plans, including independent and interdependent nursing functions.
