Job summary

Oak Valley Health’s Inpatient Mental Health Unit is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to conduct psychiatric assessments and engage in treatment modalities within a Schedule 1 facility. You will work in a progressive interprofessional environment, applying assessment and counseling skills to diverse patients while supporting patient/family centered care and safety.

Qualifications

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses
  • Current BLS certification
  • 2 years of recent acute psychiatric nursing experience
  • Completion of Medication Administration certification
  • Completion of Physical Assessment certification with proven excellent physical assessment skills
  • Completion of a psychiatric / mental health certificate
  • Knowledge of Canadian Standards for Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act of Ontario
  • Knowledge of Personal Health Information Protection Act
  • RPNAO membership preferred
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to a patient/family centred care environment
  • Demonstrated excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team as well as independently
  • Well developed organization, communication, interpersonal and teaching skills
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and leadership experience
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Commitment to a healthy and safe workplace and compliance with policies and safety requirements
