Sunnybrook is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to join the in-centre hemodialysis team. You will initiate, monitor, and discontinue treatments, perform patient assessments, provide health teaching and family counselling, and document care while troubleshooting dialysis machines.

• Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Current BCLS certificate required.
• 1 year of hemodialysis experience.
• 2 years acute care experience preferred.
• 1 year Gambro Artis hemodialysis machine use preferred.
• Post-graduate course in Nephrology or willingness to complete within 1 year of being hired.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Strong team building and conflict resolution skills.
• Excellent patient assessment skills.
• Commitment to person-centred care concepts and ability to work in an inter-professional team.

Summary Of Duties
The RPN is responsible for initiation, monitoring and discontinuation of hemodialysis treatments of in-centre patients. As a member of the inter-professional team providing person-centered care, the RPN will complete patient assessments, health teaching & family counselling, documentation, set-up/monitoring & trouble shooting of hemodialysis machines and respond to rapid changes in the patient’s hemodynamic status within the scope of practice for a hemodialysis RPN in partnership with the RNs. The RPN will play an active role in the unit on quality improvement/research project teams.

Qualifications/Skills

• Post-graduate course in Nephrology or willingness to complete the advanced training and education within 1 year of being hired
