Job summary

Mount Sinai Hospital (Toronto) is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to support General Internal Medicine and Cardiology patients. You will provide direct patient care, complete assessments, administer medications, and participate in rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.

Qualifications

• Currently registered as an RPN with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in good standing.
• Graduate of a CNO-approved practical nursing program.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient and family centered care for general internal medicine and cardiology patients.
• Complete physical assessments on patients.
• Administer medications and provide any necessary care (wound care, IV insertion and management, monitoring drains, prepare patients for procedures, etc.).
• Attend nursing rounds and safety huddles, and participate in patient/family meetings.
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, pharmacists, social workers, clinical nurse specialists, etc.

About This Team

We are a 24-bed unit with a mix of General Internal Medicine and Cardiology patients primarily requiring medical management for their acute illness that include congested heart failure, pneumonia, COPD, cancer and related complications, gastro-intestinal and other disorders. Our nurses work within an inter-professional team structure and maintain optimal nurse-to-patient ratios across shifts.

In This Role You Will

• Provide direct patient and family centered care for general internal medicine and cardiology patients
• Complete physical assessments on patients
• Administer medications and provide any necessary care (wound care, IV insertion and management, monitoring drains, prepare patients for procedures, etc.)
• Attend nursing rounds and safety huddles, and participate in patient/family meetings
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, pharmacists, social workers, clinical nurse specialists, etc.
• Apply a broad range of nursing skills including (but not exclusive to) CADD pumps, nephrostomy tubes, complex wounds, central lines, enteral feeding tubes, TPN, CIWA monitoring, managing a Code Blue, and chemotherapy
• Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required

Job Requirements

Mandatory

• Currently registered as an RPN and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
• Graduate of a CNO-approved practical nursing program.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification

Preferred

• 2 years of recent acute care clinical experience
