Job summary

Sinai Health in Toronto is seeking an experienced Registered Practical Nurse for the General Internal Medicine unit at Mount Sinai Hospital. You will deliver holistic, patient- and family-centered care and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate comprehensive care across a wide range of medical conditions.

Ideal candidates are registered with the CNO, hold a PN program diploma, and have BCLS certification.

Qualifications

  • Must be registered with College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in good standing.
  • Graduate of a CNO-approved Practical Nursing program.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • 2 years of acute care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic patient and family-centered care using the nursing process.
  • Document assessments, care, and evaluations accurately.
  • Anticipate, recognize, and address rapidly changing situations.
  • Provide health education to patients and their families using effective teaching strategies.
  • Provide direct patient care in accordance to CNO standards and Sinai Health policy and procedures.
  • Administer medications and perform nursing procedures (wound care, IVs, drains, procedures).
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team including physicians, pharmacists, social workers, and specialists.
  • Apply a broad range of nursing skills and procedures including complex wound care, central lines, and enteral feeding.
  • Mentor learners and peers, and contribute to safe discharge and transition planning.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required.

About The 12 South General Medicine Unit

We are a 28-bed general medicine unit dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Our patients range from individuals diagnosed with simple pneumonia to those with complex acute and chronic illnesses. This diverse patient population offers opportunities to acquire specialized knowledge in respiratory medicine, oncology and palliative care, pain management, geriatrics, and wound and skin care. Affiliated with various academic institutions, including the University of Toronto, our unit is committed to continuous learning and professional development, making it an ideal environment for nurses to grow and excel.

In This Role You Will
  • Apply the nursing process in the provision of holistic patient and family-centered care
  • Provide comprehensive and accurate documentation of assessments, care provision, and evaluations
  • Anticipate, recognize, and address rapidly changing situations.
  • Provide health education to patients and their families using effective teaching strategies
  • Provide direct patient care in accordance to the CNO standards and Sinai Health's policy and procedures
  • Administer medications and provide any necessary care (including, but not limited to wound care, IVs, monitoring drains, prepare patients for procedures, etc.)
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, pharmacists, social workers, clinical nurse specialists, etc.
  • Apply a broad range of nursing skills and procedures including (but not exclusive to) CADD pumps, chest tubes, nephrostomy tubes, complex wounds, central lines, enteral feeding tubes, TPN, CIWA monitoring, managing a Code Blues, and chemotherapy
  • Participate in the mentoring of learners, peers and other regulated and unregulated health professionals
  • Advocate and contribute to safe discharge and transition planning
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required
Job Requirements
Mandatory
  • Currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Graduate of a CNO-approved Practical Nursing (PN) program. Equivalent combined education and experience will be considered
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
Preferred
  • 2 years of experience in an acute care clinical environment
