As a member of an inter-professional team working under the full scope of practice, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) at Providence Care is responsible for delivering safe, effective, patient-centered care to assigned patients in a non-acute setting, as outlined by hospital policies and the Standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario. The RPN will assist patients and caregivers in managing clinical conditions and transitions, enhancing quality of life by addressing physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.

Skills and Qualifications Required
  • Active, unrestricted license to practice with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current CPR certification
  • College certificate required; diploma preferred
  • Medication Certificate issued after 1985 that meets Ontario College of Nurses requirements, if graduated before 1985
Position Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate competencies essential for safe and effective patient care
  • Assist in evaluating health status of patients with well-defined and predictable care needs, providing direct care
  • Establish care priorities including preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative aspects
  • Advocate for patients and caregivers, recognizing them as key decision-makers
  • Seek assistance when knowledge, judgment, or skill are beyond scope or safety limits
  • Evaluate patient care outcomes and modify plans based on responses, reporting as needed
