Job description

Job Summary
Southlake Regional Health Centre is offering to sponsor nurses registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario who are interested in working in the Ambulatory Day Services. Selected candidates would be required to attend a full-time Operating Room course with both a Theory (3 weeks) and Clinical (5 weeks) component. Southlake will pay for tuition and full salaries for this program. Successful candidates will be required to commit and remain in the offered ambulatory services position for 24 months following the effective date of hire. Both components of the course must be successfully completed; if not, the candidate will return to their home unit.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) role models clinical excellence and the core competencies of the practice standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), as well as the policies and procedures of Southlake Regional Health Centre (Southlake). The RPN works collaboratively as a member of the health care team, providing direct patient care based on the three-factor framework outlined in the College of Nurses of Ontario standard, RPN Practice: The Client, Nurse, and the Environment. These three factors impact decision-making related to care-provider assignment and the need for consultation and collaboration among care providers. All nurses make a commitment to lifelong learning.

The areas to which the RPN will be assigned include Endoscopy suites, Ambulatory Day Care, and Eye Institute. You will provide care to patients receiving procedures such as cystoscopies, bronchoscopies, endoscopies, respirology, and minor procedures including ENT, Gyne, LEEPS, Plastics, as well as cataract procedures.

The successful candidate will be motivated, self-directed, and a key member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team with a defined role focused on quality patient care and patient flow. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing excellent care to a diverse acute medical patient population in a fast-paced setting.
