Registered Pharmacy Technician - Signing Bonus

Compensation: $26.9722 - $29.9817 /hour

Bonus: Successful applicants will be eligible for a one-time Signing Bonus of $5,000, with a Return of Service required for 18 months.

The Opportunity

The Pharmacy Technician will collaborate with pharmacists and pharmacy practice assistants to ensure safe medication preparation and dispensing. Responsibilities include technical checks of medications, clarifying telephone medication orders, narcotic destruction, precepting students, administering medications by injection (permit required), and providing technical education. The technician will also conduct medication histories within Children’s and Women’s Health surgical units. All activities must comply with federal and provincial legislation and professional standards, and the technician is accountable for their work.

Hours of Work

0700-1500, 0800-1600, 1300-2100; days, evenings, weekends, holidays, on-call, rotating; 75 hours bi-weekly.

Your Qualifications
  • Accredited pharmacy technician training program by CCAPP, or an accredited pharmacy degree, or currently enrolled in a bridging program.
  • Licensure as a Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists; or eligible for licensure. Must maintain professional malpractice insurance if licensed.
  • Practice within legal requirements, uphold professionalism, ethics, and policies.
  • Participate in patient care, collaborating with healthcare professionals to meet patient needs.
  • Ensure safe product distribution, contributing to drug management systems.
  • Develop and evaluate policies promoting quality and safety.
  • Knowledge of NAPRA Standards of Practice for Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Ability to perform final technical checks and communicate effectively.
  • Experience with pharmacy automation and technology, medication calculations, and sterile/non-sterile compounding.
  • Knowledge of Canadian medication names, federal drug laws, and schedules.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

For those not yet licensed, an opportunity exists to complete the Eastern College Registered Pharmacy Technician Bridging Program funded by the IWK, in exchange for a return of service. Until licensure, candidates will be paid on the Pharmacy Practice Assistant scale.
