About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Clinical Pharmacy Manager, the Registered Pharmacy Technician (Pharmacy Practice Assistant) participates in the provision of safe, competent, patient- or family-centered ethical care, ensuring the goals and needs of the patient are prioritized and individualized.

  • Responsibilities primarily involve drawing on drug and patient data from the BDM, Pyxis, and Cerner information systems to provide foundational information for analysis and potential optimization of pharmacy operations and clinical services.
  • Understand existing pharmacy operations and how the new pharmacy information system functions; use data and consultation with Drug Use Evaluation Pharmacist, relevant clinical pharmacists, and the Manager to make recommendations/advice on inventory movement to optimize stocking level, stocking areas, and stock rotation.
  • May involve working with automation, inventory control, participating in quality programs and patient safety initiatives.
  • Excellent knowledge of data manipulation tools such as Excel is required.
About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required
    • If there are no candidates who meet the above qualification, candidates actively pursuing Pharmacy Technician licensure within the Province of Nova Scotia will be considered
    • If there are no candidates who meet the above qualification, Pharmacy Practice Assistants may be considered
  • Excellent knowledge of data manipulation tools such as Excel is required
  • Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) an asset
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are an asset
  • Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control and record keeping
  • Demonstrated good decision making and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications; knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs
  • Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competencies in other languages are an asset, French preferred

• Long-Assignment / 100% FTE / 75 Hours Bi-weekly

Compensation and Benefits

Registered Technician: $29.05 - $31.97 Hourly

(Pharmacy Practice Assistants: $24.97 - $28.99)
