As a member of an inter-professional team, the role of the Registered Nurse (RN) at Providence Care is to deliver safe, effective, patient-centred care to assigned patients in a non-acute setting as outlined by hospital policies and procedures and the Standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario. Working at full scope of practice, the overall function of the RN is to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical conditions and transition of the patient and to enhance the quality of life by meeting the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of each person.
Skills And Qualifications Required
- Active, unrestricted license to practice with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current CPR certificate
- Nursing Diploma from an approved university or college
- BNSc preferred
Position Responsibilities
- Accountable for his / her decisions and actions even when acting interdependently in consultation and collaboration with other members of the health care team
- Supports the hospital system in addressing ethical issues within nursing and the organization
- Acts as a role model, preceptor and mentor for the profession and for other Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses and nursing students, and is committed to the values of the nursing profession and to the mission, vision and values of Providence Care
- Maintains privacy, confidentiality, and security of patient, staff and organizational data
- Contributes to an environment of mutual respect and understanding
- Works collaboratively with fellow co-workers and the leadership team toward the achievement of the Providence Care’s overall goals and objectives
- Evaluates the health status of patients with complexity of care needs and determines the initial plan of care in collaboration with the patient, family members and members of the inter-professional team
- Works with the inter-professional team in establishing priorities for care including preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative aspects and participates in discharge planning
- Provides direct care to patients within his / her scope of practice in accordance with the College of Nurses standards, Regulated Health Professionals Act, the policies and procedures of Providence Care and all other relevant legislation
- Communicates and works collaboratively with patients, their families and all members of the inter-professional team as appropriate, in the development and implementation of care plan
- Develops a relationship of mentoring and teaching for other Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, nursing students and provides education and support in their learning
- Documents assessments, care provided and patient outcomes as per College of Nurses standards and Providence Care policy in a timely manner, to facilitate the work of the team
