Job description
Youth Psychiatry Program

This program, in partnership with the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), provides specialized mental health care for youth aged 16-18, with some flexibility for younger patients. It focuses on early-onset psychiatric disorders and complex treatment-resistant cases, ensuring collaborative care between CHEO and The Royal.

Qualifications
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Up to 3 months Nursing Experience
  • Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues
  • Clear understanding of MHA and relevant legislation
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice as articulated in the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.
  • Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues with specific knowledge about physical/medical compilations related to mental health and addictions
  • Able to meet the standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses
  • CPR certification within the last 12 months (BCLS at a minimum)
  • Evidence of continuing professional education
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills
  • Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Problem solving, leadership and management skills in responding to complex and rapidly changing situations
  • Sensitivity, skills and experience working with diverse individuals and communities
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
  • Experience in Mental Health and/or addictions
  • Membership and active participation in a professional nursing organization (RNAO)
  • Experience with evidence-based nursing care to youth with early onset mental illness
