About The Job

The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides:

  • Nursing care to psychiatric patients, working independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Enhances quality of life for patients and families; collaborates with healthcare providers
  • Demonstrates continuous improvement and evidence-based practice
  • Maintains and advances clinical competence
  • Participates in hospital committees, teams, and research projects

RPNs/RNs work with psychiatrists, social workers, occupational therapists, psychologists, and community mental health teams. Our program focuses on wellness education and supports patients in nutrition, exercise, medication management, therapy, relapse prevention, and transition back to the community.

Candidate Profile

We seek a self-directed, motivated, reliable, and flexible mental health-trained nurse (RN/RPN) who enjoys teamwork and has a strong desire to learn. Experience in Mental Health or Substance Use is preferred.

Position Details

This is a casual opportunity, with hours ranging from 0-37.5 per week as needed. Shifts include days and nights: 07:00 to 19:00, 10:00 to 18:00, and 19:00 to 07:00. Effective April 1, 2024, wages range from $41.42 to $55.91 per hour.

Location

The East Kootenay Regional Hospital Psychiatric department is a 10-bed inpatient unit with recent renovations prioritizing safety. The team includes a leader, 2 RNs on 12-hour shifts 24/7, a weekend RN, a unit clerk, and 4 psychiatrists. We offer group activities and follow the PIECES philosophy.
