Registered Nurse (RN) / Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) New Graduate Opportunities

PHSA’s New Grad Program provides new RN / RPN graduates with the opportunity to utilize their nursing skills acquired through education and training, and to enter into a nursing specialty in areas such as pediatrics, child & youth mental health, perinatal, oncology, or adult mental health nursing.

All new employees who are recent graduates hired as a registered nurse (RN) or registered psychiatric nurse (RPN) will be placed into a regular or temporary position, with a minimum of part-time hours (FTE) to full-time hours for the first six months of employment.

Nursing shifts include days, evenings, and nights, typically 8 or 12 hours, varying by unit/department.

This posting covers all “New Grad” opportunities across all locations and facilities within the Provincial Health Services Authority. Opportunities are available in the following areas/locations:

  • Locations include: Coquitlam, Surrey, Maple Ridge, Prince George, Oliver, Kamloops, Victoria, and Nanaimo

Specific Locations:

  • Coquitlam
  • Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, Prince George, Kamloops, Kelowna, Surrey, Nelson, and Campbell River

Specialized Units:

  • Regional Cancer Centres: Abbotsford, Kelowna, Prince George, Surrey, Vancouver, and Victoria
  • A team of float nurses supporting BC Children's Hospital
  • Intake schedules: three per year; next intake to be confirmed.
  • Acute Rehabilitation Unit: next intake in April 2025, with applications accepted starting January 1, 2025, and interviews during the week of January 6, 2025.

Requirements for Perinatal & Birthing Units include:

  • Completion of BCIT's Perinatal Theory 1 course or equivalent (preferred)
  • Current CPR and Newborn Resuscitation Certification (NRP)
  • Breastfeeding course (minimum 6 hours) completed within the last 2 years

Additional Requirements:

  • Current adult CPR and/or Newborn Resuscitation Certification
  • Neonatal Theory 1 from BCIT (preferred)

What you’ll do :

  • Plan and direct patient care according to the care plan.
  • Provide nursing assessments, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of health problems.
  • Collect and document patient health information.
  • Consult with nurses, families, interdisciplinary team members, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Support patients with psychosocial, personal, and life skills.
  • Administer medications, monitor reactions, and consult physicians as needed.
  • Refer patients to appropriate healthcare professionals and programs.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with policies.

What you bring :

  • Graduated from a nursing program within the last 18 months and have not previously participated in a BC Health Authority New Grad Program.
  • Provisional or practicing registration as an RN or RPN.
  • For specific positions, current CPR (Level C) or BCLS Level 1 certification is required.
  • Awareness and commitment to understanding the TRC’s 94 Calls to Action, In Plain Sight Report, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and related reports.
  • Commitment to reconciliation and knowledge of Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racism.
