Job summary

Durham Community Health Centre is seeking a part-time Dental Hygienist to join our team on Mondays from 12pm to 8pm. The role involves cleaning teeth, performing screenings, documenting history, and collaborating with dentists and assistants to ensure patient health.

The ideal candidate will have a license to practice dental hygiene, strong communication skills, and comfort with computer tasks. A positive, patient-focused approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Must be a licensed Dental Hygienist.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Comfortable using computers for a variety of tasks.

Responsibilities

• Clean teeth and remove accretions, stains, and calculus from teeth and under gum margins.
• Perform oral cancer screenings by examining lymph nodes and tissues.
• Review patient medical history and record findings.
• Use probes to check periodontal status and detect disease.
• Document dental decay and disease for dentist diagnosis and treatment.
• Inspect gums for signs of disease, sores, and health issues.
• Expose and develop dental X-ray films.
• Sharpen and sterilize dental instruments.
• Apply fluorides and other preventive agents.
• Collaborate with dentists and dental assistants.

Job description

We are looking for a Part-time Dental Hygienist to join our team on Mondays from 12pm to 8pm.

Responsibilities

• Using dental instruments to clean accretions, calcareous deposits, and stains from teeth and beneath the margins of gums.
• Looking for indications of oral cancer by feeling lymph nodes under the patient's chin for signs of tenderness or swelling.
• Noting and reviewing patient medical history.
• Using probes to examine and locate periodontal recessed gums and other signs of gum disease.
• Recording dental decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentists.
• Feeling and visually examining gums for signs of disease, sores, and other dental health issues.
• Exposing and developing X-ray film.
• Sharpening and sterilizing dental instruments.
• Applying fluorides and other dental decay prevention agents.
• Working with dentists and dental assistants.

Requirements

• Able to use an x-ray machine.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Comfortable using computers for a variety of tasks.
• Knowledgeable about oral hygiene and dental health.
