Job description

Registered Nurse (RN), Oncology Clinic

The General Duty Staff Nurse is responsible for providing holistic nursing care to oncology patients during their cancer care experience including but not limited to: assessment, intervention, symptom management, treatment coordination and administration, teaching, counselling, support and follow up consistent with established policies and standards of care.

What you'll do
  1. Provide direct patient care to Oncology patients by performing duties such as patient assessment, reviewing patient and family history, and developing and implementing a nursing care plan specific to the patient needs considering psychosocial, cultural, ethnic contexts. Deliver treatment as per prescribed protocols.
  2. Collaborate with patients, family, and multidisciplinary team members to develop treatment/care plan for the patient and through ongoing assessment, assists in the modification of the treatment/care plan as the patient progresses through the stages of care.
  3. Administer medications, injections, blood products and IV fluids as required by the care plan. Monitor patient reactions to treatment and changes in physical or mental status and uses independent judgment as to when to consult a physician.
  4. Maintain patient records by collecting and documenting patient information and health care history, nursing assessment, telephone communications, symptom and side effect management, patient and family education and care evaluations.
  5. Admit, transfer or discharge patients according to BC Cancer policies and Centre directives.
  6. Assist the patient in interpretation of their care plan. Refer patients to other health care professionals and programs in the agency and in the community, health services as required.
  7. Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by adhering to emergency procedures and safety policies and standards.
What you bring
Qualifications:
  1. Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  2. Current CPR (Level C) certification.
  3. One (1) year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  4. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts.
  5. Knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within BC Cancer contexts.
Core Competencies:
  1. Brings an understanding of the Indigenous specific racism and the broader systemic racism that exists in the colonial health care structure.
  2. Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples.

Job Type:

Regular, Full-Time

Wage:

$41.42 - $59.52 per hour.
