Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse (RN) for Firestone Ambulatory Clinic functions as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, with additional academic and clinical preparation who functions in a specialty role in respiratory and thoracic nursing. The RN improves the quality of care for patients who receive care at the Firestone Ambulatory Clinics. The RN will have responsibilities, including but not limited to, Respirology and Thoracic Clinics, Nursing Treatment Room (IV Therapy, Phlebotomy) Procedure Room, Adverse and Allergy Clinics, TB Clinic, Malignant Pleural Effusion Clinic, and coverage of other areas of care as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
•Current RN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
•Minimum 3 years' experience as a RN in Respirology/Thoracic nursing is required
•Certified Asthma Educator and/or Certified COPD Educator highly preferred
•Experience in assessment and monitoring of patients with active and latent TB preferred
•Experience with performing and interpreting skin tests/managing adverse reactions via prick and intradermal techniques required
•Aseptic Technique and experience with minor procedure set-ups and assisting with procedures
•Experience with venipuncture, intravenous therapy, administering medications by aerosol, oral, IM or IV route, allergy skin testing, removing sutures and clips, etc. required
•An enthusiasm for quality improvement in healthcare
•Excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet multiple deadlines
•Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
•Patient education skills with family and patients
•Strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
•Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills
•Demonstrated strong organizational, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
•Ability to function as an effective member of a collaborative interdisciplinary team
•Must have good attendance and work record
•Current BCLS certification required
•Smoking Cessation Training preferred
•Supportive office duties such as calling patients, intake, taking the history of patients, preparing for clinics, medication reconciliation and other duties as assigned

Note: Tours on the secondary Out-Patient Department (OPD) will be scheduled in conjunction with successful applicant's Firestone Ambulatory Clinic (FIRH) schedule and will be determined by the needs in both OPD and FIRH and will include rotating shifts.
