The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr. - CAD $55.91/Hr.

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Bone Marrow Transplant / Leukemia Program at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver BC. Apply today to join our team!

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will:

  1. Coordinate transplant activities for a select population of the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) clients/donors as determined by the Hematology/BMT Clinical Practice Unit (CPU).
  2. Be responsible for providing direct patient care such as initiating transplant workup for clients/donors in collaboration with team members, coordinating diagnostics in preparation for transition to the healthcare facility for transplant, interviewing and assessing clients, and developing individualized care plans.
  3. Communicate regularly with clients/donors along the continuum of the transplant process including providing education to clients and their families, and ensuring clients receive all requisite education regarding their upcoming transplant.
  4. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, physicians, and other healthcare professionals at VCH and other organizations such as the BC Cancer Agency.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  1. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  2. Two (2) years’ experience in a Leukemia/BMT Program.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  1. Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family centred care model.
  2. Broad knowledge of BCCNM standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners.
  3. Broad knowledge of evidence-based nursing practice related to Hematology/Leukemia/BMT techniques and standards.
  4. Broad knowledge of other healthcare disciplines and their role in client care.
  5. Broad knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
  6. Demonstrated ability to problem solve using critical thinking.
  7. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and delegate appropriate tasks.
  8. Demonstrated ability to teach.
  9. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  10. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate.
  11. Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with conflict.
  12. Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
  13. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and re-prioritize work in collaboration with others.
  14. Demonstrated skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to designated clinical area.
  15. Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
  16. Demonstrated computer literacy to operate a computerized patient care information system.
  17. Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
