Nurse Residency - North 6 General Surgery - Methodist

Shift: Full-Time Evenings or Nights, every 3rd weekend and holiday rotation

Shift differentials available for qualifying shifts

North 6 cares for patients with acute care surgical needs, specializing in colorectal and bariatric sleeve procedures, along with caring for acute care patients with medical diagnoses. The physicians and unit have received designation as a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery. Collaborates with the Physician Surgical Residency Program to ensure the patients receive the best outcomes.

Responsibilities

Applications are accepted year-round, but we encourage you to apply during your last semester of nursing school. Start dates depend on licensure, onboarding, unit availability, and personal preference.

All newly licensed RNs with less than six months of acute RN experience at the time of application are required to participate in the RN Residency program. Newly licensed nurses must apply for the Registered Nurse Residency position.

Responsibilities include functioning as a Registered Nurse as per Iowa Nursing Regulations, providing nursing care, and maintaining a practice environment aligned with the ANA Code for Nurses and UnityPoint Health's Philosophy of Nursing.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Newly licensed within the last 6 months or with less than 6 months of acute RN experience.
  • Current licensure in good standing in Iowa.
  • Completion of residency within the first 12 months of employment.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects (Dept of Labor Level III Medium Work).
