About The Job

The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides:

  • Nursing care to psychiatric patients, both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Enhances quality of life for the patient and family; consults, confers, and collaborates with other healthcare providers
  • Demonstrates continuous improvement and evidence-based practice in nursing practice
  • Maintains and advances own clinical competence
  • Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned

RPNs/RNs on the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit work in conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, social workers, occupational therapists, psychologists, as well as community mental health providers.

The Inpatient Mental Health and Substance Use program assists in-patients with acute mental health challenges. We are an interdisciplinary team that emphasizes wellness by teaching patients about nutrition, exercise, medications, therapy, relapse prevention, and other wellness strategies. We work with Community Mental Health and Substance Use programs to facilitate a smooth transition back to the community.

We are looking for a self-directed, motivated, reliable, and flexible mental health-trained nurse (RN/RPN) who enjoys working in a team environment and has a strong desire to learn. If you have experience in Mental Health or Substance Use, we want to hear from you!

Position Details

This is a Relief Part Time (0.56 FTE) opportunity until January 12, 2026, or the return of the incumbent.

Shifts will be scheduled days and nights, rotating from 07:00 to 19:00 and 19:00 to 07:00 hours.

About Vernon Jubilee Hospital

The Mental Health Department provides services for adolescents, adults, and psycho-geriatric patients in the North Okanagan, including Vernon to Revelstoke. The unit has 17 beds and one secure room, with RNs/RPNs working 8-hour or 12-hour shifts.

Vernon offers a high quality of life with its natural beauty and recreational activities, situated in the Okanagan Valley, surrounded by forests, lakes, and mountains.
