QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience

Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant or a practicing RPN registrant. Minimum two years' recent related experience, which includes one year paediatric and one year psychiatric experience.

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under the direction of the Program Coordinator or delegate, provides nursing care for children and youth with behavioural, emotional and psychiatric disturbances. Within the context of a multi-disciplinary team and in a residential setting, provides care and treatment to children and youth, including assessment, intervention, and evaluation.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities and organize workload accordingly.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage aggressive behaviour through progressive intervention techniques.
