Salary range : The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 - $59.52 / hour.

Detailed Overview :

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and Fraser Health's Mission and Values, the Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse works collaboratively within an interprofessional care team to provide person-centered and recovery-oriented care. The role involves treatment and care management services that are inclusive and flexible for individuals with mental illness and concurrent disorders (e.g., substance use, developmental disorders). The nurse promotes a culturally safe, trauma-informed approach, establishing a welcoming environment that encourages client self-determination and independence.

Responsibilities :
  • Coordinate care by collaborating with the care team, performing intake, conducting assessments, developing and adjusting treatment plans, administering medications, and monitoring client responses.
  • Provide direct nursing care, including assessments, developing care plans, and implementing treatment modalities such as ADLs, wound care, and medication administration.
  • Use a strengths-based approach, employing motivational interviewing and engagement techniques, and assist clients in accessing community services.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships, engage stakeholders, support self-care, and educate clients and families about psychiatric conditions and treatment.
  • Deliver treatment services like crisis intervention, counseling, and education, utilizing various theoretical models.
  • Participate in case conferences with clients, families, and team members to coordinate care and advocate for clients' rights.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to adjust care plans and address changes in client conditions.
  • Monitor extended leave conditions under the Mental Health Act and ensure treatment continuity.
  • Assist clients in accessing services, including appointment scheduling, form processing, and transportation.
  • Document assessments, care plans, interventions, and responses according to standards.
  • Maintain a safe environment by following safety protocols and reporting risks.
  • Identify personal learning needs and participate in professional development activities.
  • Engage in research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • May be required to plan and deliver educational sessions, facilitate group therapy, and provide outreach nursing care in various settings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications :

Education, Training & Experience: Graduation from an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing. Two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination. Additional certifications in substance use or opioid treatment may be required.

Current registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with BCCNM. Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle.

Skills and Abilities :
  • Ability to conduct mental health and substance use assessments and provide appropriate nursing care.
  • Knowledge of mental health and substance use treatments, psychopharmacology, legislation, and policies.
  • Strong counseling, group facilitation, and crisis intervention skills.
